Vanitas is a controversial Toronto-based filmographer known in underground spaces primarily for his dramatized biopics on serial killers. His films are generally really low quality and is frowned upon due to the amount of shock content he puts in there. Vanitas manages to find himself in the crossroads constantly of those whom he monitors, keeping tabs on those he finds "interesting" as a hobby of sorts. He is heavily ingrained in gore forum culture and overtly creepy and perverse. he lives in a less than stellar neighbourhood in Toronto.

While listening to the radio, Vanitas became infatuated with Everyman, particularly his voice. It originally stemmed from Vanitas wanting Everyman to narrate one of his biopic films, but eventually transitioned to him developing an extremely morbid crush on him.

At one point Vanitas even got an opportunity to speak with Everyman directly by calling into the station, bribing him with interview material of a recent high-profile crime on the condition that they meet in person. Vanitas' interest in Everyman escalated since that, the two bonding off the air over art films leading to the two hanging out regularly. Eventually things intensified and Vanitas slept around him for a bit, consistently developed romantic limerence with him.
